Wings of Freedom: Public Space unveiling
Inauguration of public space designed by Mimo on day which marks defence of the municipality of Novi Grad.
The 8th June 2025 saw the unveiling of the public space around Emir Salihovic’s Wings of Freedom monument, in commemoration of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s victory in the Battle of Zuc 23 years ago. Citizens and tourists alike may now approach the monument via different paths, illuminated in the evenings, and view the monument from different angles in the new space designed by Mimo.
The 8th June is commemorated in Novi Grad as the day marking the defence of the municipality – and, by extension, the defence of Sarajevo itself. The past two commemorations have taken place at Zuc, centred around the Wings of Freedom monument, which was inaugurated in 2024.
The surrounding public space marks the completion of the second phase of the project, with talks for the third phase – a museum dedicated to the Battle of Zuc – well underway.
